LAHORE: Educational Institutions opened for classes 10 and 12 after remaining closed due to the third wave of coronavirus pandemic, but thin attendance observed in all private and public sector schools and colleges here on Monday.
Following the instruction of the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC), all schools started their classes for Class 10 and colleges for classes 12 but students have shown less interest in attending classes.
According to officials of the District Education Authority (DEA), around 10 percent of students of class 10 attended schools in the provincial capital. A reason for not attending school may be preparing for exams as there are few weeks left in the matric examinations, sources told Academia Mag.
Another reason behind thin attendance could be that Lahore is home to several quality educational institutions and many of the outsiders are studying in the schools and colleges of the city. The sudden decision of opening schools and colleges may be a reason that students residing outside Lahore may not be able to reach back to the city to attend the classes, sources added.
Hope that the situation may be better in the upcoming days as people will be back in Lahore after the proper opening of educational institutions, sources told.
While on the other hand, teachers demanded the opening of educational institutions in full swing and said that through this 50 percent attendance plan the interest of students cannot be developed in the class and course as well.
CEO School Education Lahore has said that schools timings will be 8:00 am to 1:00 pm while everyone including teachers and students has to follow COVID-19 SOPs.
Provincial Education Minister Murad Raas in a tweet said that as per the decision of NCOC, classes of class 10 and 12 will be started from May 31 however, strict action will be taken against the violators of orders.
