1107 SU students receive cheques under Ehsas Undergraduate Scholarship

As many as 1107 students of academic batch 2020 enrolled on merit in various disciplines at Sindh University Jamshoro have been given cheques of worth Rs. 40,000 each as the first installment under Ehsas Undergraduate Scholarship Phase II here on Monday.

The Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro distributed the cheques among the lucky students at a ceremony held in Shaikh Ayaz Auditorium, Arts faculty Building, which was organized by the Students’ Financial Aid Office, University of Sindh, Jamshoro.

The ceremony was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor Dr Kalhoro which was attended by Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences Prof. Dr. Wazir Ali Baloch, Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology Prof. Dr. Khalil-ur-Rehman Khambati, Dean Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration Prof. Dr. Javed Ahmed Chandio, Director Students’ Financial Aid Office Dr. Fiza Qureshi, Director Admissions Dr. Ayaz Keerio.

Addressing the participants, the Vice-Chancellor Professor (Meritorious) Dr Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro felicitated the students who received Ehsas Scholarship and said that only 1313 slots were approved by the higher education commission (HEC) for all the batches in 2020 under Ehsas Undergraduate Scholarship, out of which he said the first installment was given to the selected candidates, however, they will also be handed over the second installment forthwith.

He said that more than 700 scholarship slots were being approved for the single batch of 2020, however he persuaded the HEC authorities to give 500 more scholarships for SU, after which at his insistence he said 400 more scholarships were announced.

He said that a total of 1107 scholarships in the phase-II were approved for the single batch of 2020, which was a big number of scholarship slots for the students of Sindh University in comparison with the previous (Phase-I) which were just 1313 for all the batches.

Dr. Kalhoro went on saying that “there are 14 different scholarships being offered to the students by the University of Sindh this time. These slots are for meritorious students.

“50% of the scholarships approved for the 2020 batch by HEC have been reserved for female students. We want to encourage the girl students to seek higher education at every cost and stand on their feet, we will provide them with scholarships”, he remarked.

The Vice-Chancellor further said that the students should work hard and make proper use of the scholarship money received so that they might not feel any intricacy during their stay on the campus.

He said that students will get the cheques of Ehsas Undergraduate Scholarship continuously for four years, provided that they might secure good marks in every semester examinations and improve their academic performance.

Earlier, the Director Students Financial Aid Office Dr. Fiza Qureshi gave a detailed briefing on Ehsas Undergraduate Scholarship while Muhammad Junaid got the honor of reciting the Holy Quran at the onset of the event.
