LAHORE: The students of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) are facing yet another problem when the thesis evaluation from foreign professors has been stopped due to non-payment of fee.

According to sources at UET, the university is going through severe financial crises which caused the delay in the evaluation of PhD thesis of different programs. The delay in the evaluation of the thesis may waste the educational year of enrolled students, the sources told. The varsity has not paid an evaluation fee to its foreign professors upon which they have denied evaluating the thesis.

Talking to Academia, a student enrolled in one of the PhD programs, told on the condition of anonymity that students of all PhD programs are facing a lot of problems at UET as the last 15 months were disturbed by the COVID-19 situation. The frequent closing and opening of the university has affected the research work and created a gap in the work.
He said that the already hit students are now facing another dilemma when the foreign faculty denied evaluating the thesis due to non-payment of the previous fee. This is sheer negligence from university management that they are wasting precious time of students who are already hit hard by the pandemic, he said adding that UET should have paid all dues of foreign faculty members.

A faculty member also informed that situation with the fee payment of local teachers who evaluates PhD thesis also have a bad situation. He said that the situation is not going to be streamlined until the budget for 2021 will be handed over to the university which may take at least two-three months.

The Vice-Chancellor UET Dr Mansoor Sarwar and spokesperson Shahida Nazir were contacted for official details but they were unable to respond to the queries.
