Pablo Picasso once said, “Every child is an artist.” That cannot be closer to truth, as displayed by budding artists from across the country at the 7th Art Beat National Child Art Competition and Exhibition. This year’s themes – My Likes, My Dreams, My City, My Village – urged children to explore their inner voices to come up with works about what they liked, what they wanted to be and how they envisioned the environment and the people around them. 01

Having received over 10,000 entries from children across Pakistan, the handpicked jury consisting of esteemed artists, industry professionals and art educators shortlisted around 150 entries for the award of prizes and display at exhibitions in Lahore Karachi and Islamabad. The Lahore leg of the exhibition was launched on February 16 at Zahoorul Akhlaq Gallery at National College of Arts Lahore. Besides the children’s work, artworks from eight project areas of Pakistan as part of UNESCO’s Girls Right to Education Programme implemented by The Little Art in collaboration with UNESCO and Government of Pakistan were also put up on display.3

An award ceremony was also held to hand out prizes to winners of the competition. The jury members for this year’s Art Beat included Dr Ajaz Anwar, Anila Zulfiqar, Ali Azmet, Basir Mehmood, R M Naeem, Sadaf Naeem, Wardah Naeem Bukhari, Sumaira Jawad, Syeda Iffat and Zil-e-Batool.5
