The 7th International Conference on Education, with the theme “Research and Development in Education for Sustainable Future “ kicks-off today at the University of Education, Lahore. Educationists, scholars and delegates all across the globe will be participating in the two day conference, with more than 134 research presentations by leading national and international scholars.The chief guest at the opening ceremony of the conference was Provincial Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Hamyun. While addressing the conference, the minister said the present government was giving utmost pertinence to education and hence were committed to increase the education budget on an yearly basis. He said the University of Education and its leadership deserved credit and appreciation for holding such useful conferences. The minister said in countries like Pakistan, it was vital to hold such conferences, in order to facilitate the culture of research and development.
Welcoming the guests and scholars, University of Education Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rauf-i-Azam said the varsity had organised a number of international conferences under different themes, during the last seven years. He said the theme of this year’s conference was not only interesting but was of great importance, particularly in the field of education.
Prof Dr Rauf-i-Azam said in the present era only those nations will touch the zenith of glory who held education as their most sacred responsibility. To achieve this goal, it was essential to reconnect development and research education with sustainable goals. He said the need of the hour was to integrate various concepts regarding sustainability into the curriculum, along with introducing vigorous assessment and research modules. “Education community needs to review all educational, teaching and research programmes and should focus on the challenges, causes, consequences and solutions that can lead to a sustainable future,” he added.
The organiser of the conference Dr Ayaz Muhammad Khan said the main purpose of the conference was to explore practical as well as feasible solutions to the educational problems of the present times.
