A special package worth Rs 285 million has been allocated for universities in Balochistan, FATA and Gilgit Baltistan over and above their normal allocation for the upcoming financial year 2020-21, Higher Education Commission of Pakistan has said. In a statement released on Wednesday, HEC said funding for FATA University had also been prioritized and its allocation had been tripled.
The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) has finally named the members of a three-member fact-finding committee that is to probe allegations of irregularities in payments of $7 million (Rs 638 million) worth of salaries by the Government College Lahore University under the Foreign Faculty Hiring Programme (FFHP).
A delegation comprising representatives of different boards of deeni madaris, led by Tanzeemul Madaris Ahle Sunnat President Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rahman, called on Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Tariq Banuri, at the HEC Secretariat on Tuesday. President Dr Arif Alvi will inaugurate the second phase of Allama Iqbal Scholarship program for Afghan students on Monday, according to the official sources. Last year, Pakistan sanctioned additional scholarships to 3,000 Afghan students, under the second phase of the Program. Moreover, 100 scholarships were offered to Afghan women to pursue graduate degrees as well.
