The government was focusing on uplifting the higher education sector as per the international standards, has said by Punjab Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun. While addressing the annual meeting of PU Institute of Islamic Studies Alumni Association here on Wednesday, he added that the government was planning to revamp the higher education in the province, as no country could progress without advancing in the education sector.

The most influential global academic rankings – the highly influential Shanghai Academic Rankings of World Universities (ARWU), Times Higher Education World University Rankings and QS Top University Rankings – have been in existence for more than a decade and are now a major force in shaping higher education worldwide.

During one of his numerous bus journeys back home while being a student at NUST, one of our team members sat next sat to 15-year-old boy named Ahmed. The boy hardly stopped talking during the journey, explaining everything from why the sky was blue, why witches wore pointy hats and how JRR Tolkien got inspired to write The Hobbit. His passionate explanation, our colleague related, gave away his love for the fantasy world as well as reading, which was exactly what Ahmed said he wanted to explore further as a career.
