UET LAHORE Holds 26th Convocation

The University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Lahore on Tuesday held its 26th convocation at the main auditorium of university. Governor Punjab and Chancellor of University Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar presided over the convocation. While Chairman Pakistan Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Professor Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid and Chairman Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) Engr Jawed Salim Qureshi participated as guests of honor.

While addressing to faculty, students and parents Governor Punjab and Chancellor of University Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said, “Today is the celebration of your courage to infuse individual talent with tradition of knowledge coupled with commitment and hard work. Congratulations to all the graduating students and their parents on their accomplished mission. UET has unlocked all its potential towards delivery of quality education as its sole purpose.”

He said, “The accreditation of UET degree programs on Outcome based Education (OBE) system, that are recognized by 20 developed countries of the world under Washington Accord, is a commendable achievement. UET Lahore is a flag bearer in quality engineering education with the largest number of OBE accredited programs in the country.”

“I would also appreciate that UET has improved its QS World University ranking i.e. 171 position in top 500 Universities of Asia. This marvelous achievement in such a short time is testament to the competence, commitment and continuous efforts of the faculty, administration and students of University” he added. Chaudhry Sarwar advised students to become productive and humanistic creator of Pakistan’s future. In his concluding remarks he said, “Pakistan is an independent country and you should worth your freedom. Your success is due to the sacrifices of your parents which should be regarded with hard work.”

Vice chancellor UET Professor Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar said, “As UET’s 16th Vice Chancellor, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the graduates, their families, and their teachers. Graduates, your success has a lot to do with your hard work, love, prayers, and support of your parents and families, guidance of your teachers, challenges of your peers, love and care of your friends and help of supporting staff at the university. We all are proud of you.”

He further said, “I am trying my best to achieve the goal of making the university financially self-sustainable for this purpose we are establishing pension fund and Fund-raising facility for needy scholarships so that no student is denied education at UET due to financial constraints. We are also making efforts in reducing energy expenses by installing solar power plants and replacing conventional lights and fans with energy efficient lights and fans, automate key business processes for efficiency and transparency, using austerity measures to reduce expenses, making UET campuses clean and green through plantation fruit and indigenous trees as well as establishing urban forests on all campuses.”

Later, Lamprò Mèllon honored all Gold Medalists of Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Computer Science at all five campuses with shields, certificates, and cash prizes of Rs. 50,000 each which were given to the relevant Gold Medalists. Lamprò Mèllon is premier recruitment – through – training organization with the aim of equipping engineers with skills in Systems-on-Chip Design (SoC) so that they can be at the forefront of the opportunities in the semiconductor industry. 

VC announced that Gold Medal winners would be offered a fast track entry into Lampro Mellon’s SoC training program. They would not undertake the online test. He said this is really a big achievement for UET in this context and thanked the CEO Lampro Mellon Sabahat Rafique and her team, Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, Minister Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun, Chairman PHEC Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid, and Professor Dr Muhammad Tahir, Director ORIC for their contribution in enabling this partnership.

He shed light on the improvements in the academic parameters at the university as 4.2% increase in undergraduate enrollment, 88.7% increase in graduate enrollment, 27.4% increase in research publications, 36.3% increase in impact factor research publications and 304% increase in research funding through competitive research grants.

Under 7 different faculties 2256 degrees including 24 PhD, 475 M. Phil/MS degrees, 96 M.Sc. and 1662 undergraduate degrees to B.Sc. session 2019 and Architecture 2018 were distributed. However, 66 Gold Medals were distributed among students. Degrees were awarded in UET main and sub-campuses followed by the number of  1683 degrees in Lahore main campus, 226 in New campus UET-Kala Shah Kaku, 159 degrees in UET Faisalabad campus, 85 degrees in Rachna College of Engineering and Technology (UET-RCET), 103 degrees in UET Narowal campus.

In this event, members of syndicate, deans, foreign delegates, registrar Muhammad Asif, controller examination Muhammad Zargham Nusrat, treasurer Hassna Munir, Government College University’s former vice chancellor Dr Khaleeq Ur Rehman, Engr Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhry (President PTI Punjab) chairpersons of academic and administrative offices were present.  At the end of convocation vice chancellor Professor Dr Mansoor Sarwar presented souvenirs to the honorable guests Governor Punjab and Chancellor of University Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, Chairman PHEC Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid and Chairman PEC Engr Jawed Salim Qureshi.
