The recent admissions scandal in the US has exposed the discrepancies within the US higher education system and how it can be exploited if you know the right people and have the right cash. Allegations against wealthy parents for abusing their connections and power for securing admissions at elite universities in America highlights how the system is being rigged or manipulated by the well-heeled.

As many as 65 top American universities, including MIT and Harvard, have challenged the Trump administration in the court against its new US student visa policy for international students, a report by News18 said. The higher education system board and leading higher education institutes, majority of which are also the member institutions of the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, signed a joint amicus brief last Monday.

The annual Academic Ranking of World Universities, commonly known as the Shanghai ranking, has seen China and US make the most gains in the 2018 list, however, Harvard University retained the top spot for the 16th year running. China saw six new universities make their way into the top 500 in the world, while there were four new US universities in the 2008 list.
