The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is set to commemorate a significant milestone this weekend as it celebrates 120 years since its founding. Established in London on November 30, 1904, by a group of eight visionary accountants, ACCA has grown into a global network boasting over 252,500 members and 526,000 future members across 180 countries.

When ACCA was founded in 1904, nobody could have predicted how much we’d achieve. Our story has been one of innovation and growth. But above all, it’s a story of more people’s careers launched, lives transformed, and many dreams come true.”
He highlighted the impact of ACCA’s community: “We have an amazing community of talented and committed members around the world undertaking successful careers and making a positive and sustainable impact on countless businesses, organizations, and communities, creating huge benefits for the global economy.”
The year 2024 has been especially historic for ACCA. At its recent AGM, Ayla Majid was elected president, alongside Melanie Proffitt as deputy president and Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan as vice president. This marks the first time in ACCA’s history that women hold all three officer posts simultaneously. This milestone continues the organization’s legacy of breaking barriers, having been the first professional accountancy body to admit women to membership in 1909.
Helen Brand OBE, Chief Executive of ACCA, reflected on the landmark achievements of the year: “2024 has truly been a landmark year for us. In May, our membership numbers exceeded a quarter of a million. In September, we launched our new Professional Diploma in Sustainability.”
She added, “Earlier this month, we received a special nomination in the international category of the UN Trade and Development awards, recognizing our work to improve reporting and skills capacity building on sustainability.”
As ACCA celebrates this momentous anniversary, its vision for the future remains steadfast: advancing the profession, empowering its members, and contributing to a sustainable and inclusive global economy. The weekend celebrations will reflect on ACCA’s extraordinary past while setting sights on the opportunities and challenges ahead.
