ACP remembers Prof Dr.Shakeel-ur-Rehman Farooqi

Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi on Friday organized an event in the memory of prominent Professor Dr Shakeel Farooqi of Karachi University at the Arts Council’s Jaun Elia lawn.

Farooqi’s colleagues, professors, family members, and literary personalities attended the event. Expressing his view on the occasion president Arts Council Mohammad Ahmed Shah said: “Dr Farooqi was a venerable member of the council and remembering him was a responsibility we paid off today”.

“Dr Farooqi dedicated his life for the betterment of this society. He was famous for his activism for teacher’s and student’s rights,” said Shah, added; “Farooqi was my friend he was a wonderful human. I will miss him throughout of my life”.

Remembering Prof. Farooqi, KU Vice-Chancellor Khalid Iraqi said; “people knew him as Prof. Shakeel Farooqi but for me, he was Shakeel Bhai. I heard his speech for the first time in 1983. He struggled to take KU forward. He was a great students’ advisor and consultant. Even the Vice-chancellors used to consult with him abou administrative matters”.

“I learned from Farooq to maintain relationships despite the differences,” Shakeel Farooqi’s nephew Kashif Grami while addressing the event said. He said that Dr Farooqi was not only a great teacher and poet, but there were also many hidden aspects of his personality. He was against prejudice and always tried to resolve conflicts and give opportunities to others.

Speaking on the occasion senior journalist Alauddin Khanzada said, “Dr Farooqi has fulfilled all his duties in his life really well. “I am sure that all his companions and professors will support us in completing Farooqi’s unfinished tasks. He will be missed forever”.

Khaleel-Ullah Farooqi said that Shakeel was a gentle & loving soul, using smart phrases in between his talks.

The ACP literary committee chairperson Ambreen Haseeb Amber said, “Farooqi’s personality was inspiring based on maintaining good relations with others and even with opponents”.

On the occasion, Riaz Ahmed, Zafar Talat Aalam Talat, Maqsood Ansari, Tariq Ameen, Dr. Fayyaz, and Ameen Memon also shared their views. The event was moderated by the member governing body of Arts Council Shakeel Khan.
