In a decisive victory, the anti-vice chancellor faction triumphed in the Punjab University (PU) Academic Staff Association (ASA) elections, thwarting the coalition backed by the VC and comprising three groups.
Dr. Amjad Abbas Magsi, the candidate from the Council of Professionals (COPS), emerged victorious as the President, securing a significant mandate with 448 votes. His closest competitor, Azhar Naeem, trailed with 367 votes. For the Secretary position, Dr. Muhammad Islam claimed success with 412 votes, surpassing Manoor Iqbal, who garnered 401 votes.
Within the CoPs, Dr. Ghalib Atta clinched the Vice President Arts position with 440 votes, while Dr. Farah Shakuri secured the Vice President Science slot with 423 votes. Dr. Amir Masood Chishti captured the Treasurer seat with 443 votes.
Among the Executive Members for the New Campus, Abrar Zafar led with an impressive 525 votes, followed by Abdul Rehman Khan Niazi with 442 votes, and Abdul Muqieet Hai with 436 votes. Mudassar Azam, Aashi Zeeshan, and Amina Shoaib secured 435, 410, and 395 votes, respectively. Ahmed Bilal emerged victorious as the Joint Secretary.
In the Old Campus, Abrar Ahmed secured a commanding win with 470 votes, while Siddiqa Riaz garnered 397 votes.
Dr. Muhammad Nasir, President of the Council of Professionals, along with the group’s vice president, attributed the landslide victory to the overwhelming support of the university faculty. They pledged to spearhead efforts to reform the university, promising a new era of progress and collaboration.
