Punjab University (PU) Lahore’s Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood highlighted the significance of calligraphy as a powerful communication tool, asserting that it holds more impact than words alone. Speaking at the ‘Names of the Prophet (PBUH) Calligraphy Competition and Exhibition’ organized by the PU Sheikh Zayed Islamic Center in collaboration with the National Rehmatul-Lil-Aalameen w Khatamun Nabiyyin Authority (NRKNA) Islamabad, and Ashraf Al Qalam, Dr Mahmood praised the art form for its ability to convey profound messages.

The event, held on Wednesday, was attended by a range of distinguished figures, including Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies Prof Dr Muhammad Hammad Lakhvi, Director SZIC Prof Dr Muhammad Abdullah, Rehmatul-Lil-Aalameen Authority’s Focal Person Dr Ishtiaq Ahmed Gondal, and renowned calligrapher Ashraf Heera. Faculty members, students, and calligraphers from across the country also graced the occasion.

In his remarks, Dr Mahmood underscored the importance of organizing such events to propagate the message of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He noted that observing the exhibition evoked a deep connection to the Prophet’s teachings. Commending the participants, he emphasized the increasing involvement of women in calligraphy as a promising sign for the nation.

Dr Mahmood also highlighted the significant contribution of the university’s Islamic Studies departments in enhancing PU’s academic standing, with graduates serving globally.

Prof Dr Muhammad Abdullah welcomed the attendees and expressed his belief that the name of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) will continue to resonate throughout time. Celebrated calligrapher Ashraf Heera shared insights into the rich history of calligraphy, emphasizing that Pakistani artists are renowned worldwide, with some having worked on the calligraphy of Masjid Nabawi.

Dr Ishtiaq Ahmed Gondal lauded the event’s organizers, acknowledging the role such platforms play in inspiring young artists and students. At the conclusion of the event, shields and certificates of appreciation were awarded to the top calligraphers.
