A distinguished team from Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) recently took part in the third annual USAID-funded Higher Education System Strengthening Activity (HESSA) International Summit, held from July 8-11, 2024, in Murree. The AWKUM delegation included Dr Hazir Rahman, Dr Jehangir, Dr Majid, Dr Shah Hussain, Dr Tahir, and Mr Ata ur Rehman.

The HESSA initiative, spearheaded by the University of Utah, collaborates with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and 16 partner universities across Pakistan. The program aims to enhance institutional capacities to deliver market-driven education and research, bolstering Pakistan’s higher education landscape.

This year’s summit centered around six crucial themes for supporting higher education institutions in Pakistan: financial aid, student leadership, student microenterprises, career readiness, alumni engagement, and mental health. The event provided a platform for academic leaders and experts to share insights, strategies, and best practices to address these themes and improve the overall educational environment.

Dr Hazir Rahman expressed his satisfaction with the summit, stating, “The HESSA summit provided invaluable opportunities for learning and collaboration. The focus on holistic development, from financial aid to mental health, is crucial for nurturing well-rounded students ready to contribute to society.”

The participation of the AWKUM team in such international summits highlights the university’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and aligning with global educational standards.
