Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Tariq Banuri held an interactive session titled ‘Towards improving undergraduate studies in Pakistan’ at the Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) on Thursday. During the session, he said HEC was working to introduce reforms in the four-year BS undergraduate programme, the chief flagship programme offered at universities.

“This interactive session is meant to get valuable input from stakeholders, including students and teachers and to understand current problems of the BS programme. The feedback will help improve the final policy recommendation and reforms for the current higher education system,” he added.

The HEC chairman also highlighted different aspects of the proposed plan, facilitating the transformation of the higher education milieu and to bring it on the lines of the internationally recognized models.“The reforms would help us to produce knowledgeable, skilful and employable graduates contributing towards the economic development of the country,” Banuri said.

He said the commission will also help varsities in the transition process, with the aim of improving the quality of education in the country and catering to the current education challenges. Banuri said the four-year BS programme should help in producing graduates with the capacity and skill-set to face political, social, economic, political and psychological challenges in life.

Earlier, Vice Chancellor Quaid-i-Azam University Prof Muhammad Ali welcomed the HEC chairman and thanked him for taking out time from his busy schedule.  Students, teachers and staff members showed up in large numbers at the interactive session.
