Beijing Outperforms Shanghai In International Schools List 2019

Seven international schools in Beijing have secured a place in the top ten list of international schools in China, while four international schools in Shanghai also secured spots, per the findings of an education survey by Harun education. Beijing also replaced Shanghai as the city with the most number of schools in the list, while a Shanghai-based school clinched the number one spot., this year.

Shanghai High School International Division tops the list followed by Dulwich College Beijing (second), YK Pao School, ISB (third) and Shanghai World Foreign Language Academy (fourth). Beijing outperformed other cities in China by securing 26 spots in the top 100 list, an increase from the last year’s ranking in which 21 Beijing-based schools made to the final list. The top 100 schools came from 24 cities across the country, while two-third schools in the list were placed in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou.

The Hurun Education Top International Schools in China 2018 surveyed 330 school teachers, principals, investors, international study agents and Chinese government departments in the country, between July 2018 and December 2018. Hurun Education is regarded as the leading authority of international education in Mailand China. The Harun Education Top International Schools list was launched in 2018 in order to identify the leading international schools in the country.

Proportion of schools included in the survey also highlighted that the number of Chinese passport holder’s admittance in the institutes rose from 70 percent to 80 percent this year which means that eight of the top ten schools in the list admitted Chinese passport holders.

Hurun Education Chairman Rupert Hoogewerf said: “This ranking is primarily targeted at parents with children in China, helping them to find the most suitable school for their child, teachers already at or looking to work at international schools in China and admission officers of universities looking to recruit students from China.”

Guo Fei, the co-founder of Everest International Education, a strategic partner of the Hurun Education, said the list can help prospective parents and students to identify the best available study options, as 20 schools in the list made to the ranking for the very first time.

“I hope the Hurun Education Top 100 can suggest diversified growth paths for outstanding students, flagging up traditional powerhouses such as Shanghai High School International Division, as well as perhaps lesser-known schools that have unique teaching philosophies and cultivation of talent,” Fei added.

Simon Herbert, headmaster of Dulwich College Beijing said exam results and community engagement initiatives by the school played a vital role in high placing, this year. In total, five Dulwich College schools secured spots in the top 100 highlighting the stature of the international brand in Mainland China.
