British Council Announces Winners of UK Alumni Awards 2019-20
Winners of the prestigious Study UK Alumni Awards 2019-20 announced by the British Council at an awarding ceremony in Pakistan.

In total, 12 UK alumni in 2019-20 were  recognized for their outstanding achievements as business professionals, entrepreneurs and community leaders, and for their important contribution to strengthening collaborative ties between the

The prestigious international award celebrates UK higher education and the achievements of UK alumni all over the world. Now in its sixth year, the award received around 1,000 applications from international UK alumni in more than 100 countries, representing more than 120 UK higher education institutions across the UK. Following in-depth interviews with a judging panel, recipients were selected for the three award categories: Professional Achievement, Entrepreneurial, and Social Impact.

The Professional Achievement Award, which recognizes alumni who have distinguished themselves through exemplary leadership in their professional field, was presented to Sheraz Zaka. Sheraz Zaka completed his LLM from Cardiff University with the goal of becoming an agent of change. After completing his education in the UK, Sheraz returned to Pakistan to provide free legal aid to the marginalized communities. He has represented his community to protect them against pollution
caused by industrial units established in residential areas. He has also worked to protect the environment, domestic workers, disabled people, Christian community, transgender community, film-makers and the natural resources of Pakistan.IMG 20200301 WA0007
The Social Impact Award, which acknowledges alumni who have made an exceptional contribution to creating positive social change, was presented to Sosan Aziz. Sosan was awarded the British Chevening Scholarship in 2007 and completed her Masters in Gender and Development the University of Sussex. She is a champion for women rights and for their economic integration and uplift. She is a member of National Standing Committee of Reducing Emissions from Deforestation
and Forest Degradation Project from Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan and a member of the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) Pakistan from Gilgit Baltistan.
The Entrepreneurial Award, which highlights alumni who have played a leading role in innovation or creative solutions, was presented to Dr Fauzia Idrees. Fauzia did her PhD in Information Security Engineering from the City University of London. She served Pakistan Air Force for 22 years and led the Cyber Security team. She is the CEO of Cynosure Technologies, and is the founding president of Women in STEM Pakistan, a not-for-profit working to promote STEM education for girls in Pakistan.
Amir Ramzan Country Director British Council in Pakistan said: “The remarkable individuals we celebrated today at the Study UK Alumni Awards in Lahore have all taken their UK education as a starting point to excel in their chosen careers and shape the world  around them. This year’s awards ceremony is testimony not only to the diversity of UK alumni and their endeavors, but also to the trans-formative impact of a UK education. With more than 10,000 alumni of a UK education in Pakistan, there is much to celebrate.”
