The British Council and the Scottish Government have launched a new scholarship program for young women and girls in Pakistan. The Scotland Pakistan Scholarship 2023 is designed to help women from financially disadvantaged backgrounds pursue higher education in the fields of education, agriculture and food security, sustainable energy, health sciences, and STEM engineering.

The scholarship covers tuition fees, university hostel costs, and travel to and from home to university for students staying in on-campus hostels. Applications are open now and the deadline is September 15, 2023.

“This scholarship is a great opportunity for young women and girls in Pakistan to pursue their dreams of higher education,” said the British Council’s Country Director in Pakistan, Barbara Wickham. “We are committed to supporting the empowerment of women and girls in Pakistan, and this scholarship is one way we can help them achieve their full potential.”

The Scottish Government’s Minister for Europe, Migration and International Development, Ben Macpherson, said: “This scholarship is a fantastic opportunity for young women and girls in Pakistan to develop their skills and knowledge in areas that are critical to the country’s future. I am delighted that the Scottish Government is able to support this important initiative.”

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be Pakistani citizens, be female, and be enrolled in a master’s or bachelor’s degree program in one of the eligible fields. They must also demonstrate financial need.
