Punjab University (PU) Lahore’s Centre for Clinical Psychology (CCP) successfully organized its 7th International Conference on “Mental Health and Rehabilitation: Contemporary Trends and Advances in Clinical Practice,” a three-day event that brought together global and local experts to address emerging challenges in mental health care and rehabilitation.

The conference, held from November 20 to 22, 2024, was attended by an esteemed gathering, including CCP Director Prof Dr Saima Dawood, University of Leeds (UK) Professor of Health Equity Prof Dr Ghazala Mir, Ireland-based Principal Clinical Psychologist Dr Akhtar Ali Syed, and international delegates from Indonesia, the UK, and Ireland. Experts from Islamabad, Karachi, and various other parts of Pakistan also participated alongside faculty members and students.

In her inaugural address, Prof Dr Saima Dawood expressed gratitude to Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali for his unwavering support in fostering mental health research. She underscored the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in tackling the complex issues of mental health and rehabilitation.

The event featured an extensive academic program, including 11 scientific sessions, six symposiums, and two panel discussions. Key topics included advancements in evidence-based therapies, innovative treatment approaches, the integration of technology in mental health care, and the role of rehabilitation in improving mental health outcomes.

Highlighting the event’s practical focus, two certification training workshops for professionals were conducted by international experts, offering attendees hands-on opportunities to learn cutting-edge methodologies.

Participants praised the conference as a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and networking. “The discussions and training provided new insights into mental health care, offering solutions for future challenges,” noted one attendee.

The CCP’s efforts in organizing this impactful event were widely lauded, reinforcing its role as a leading institution in advancing mental health care in Pakistan and beyond.
