The Chinese embassy in Islamabad organised a ceremony to award scholarships to 62 Pakistani students selected by the Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission. These bright students Secured full scholarships from the Chinese government to pursue their graduate, masters and doctoral degree programmes at leading Chinese universities.

These scholarships are part of China’s scholarship programme for Pakistan under which almost 7,000+ students are already enrolled in various Chinese universities. In the latest scholarship programme, over 1000 students applied online and the meritorious candidates were selected by HEC for the final offer.

Raza Chohan, academic director general at the Higher Education Commission, said majority of students will be studying applied sciences in China. He said these students will be acting as ambassadors of Pakistan during their academic stay in China, and after returning back will play a vital role in the socio-economic development of the country.

As per HEC records, currently 28,000+ Pakistani students are studying in various degree programmes in China. Majority of Pakistani alumni of Chinese universities are working at high profile positions in different educational institutes, hospitals, government offices, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor projects and other infrastructural projects, after coming back from China.

First Secretary of the Chinese Embassy to Pakistan Pan Yuqi said Pakistan was committed to provide high quality education to its students for the advancement of a knowledge-based economy, and it was an honour and pleasure for China to help Pakistan in its education and training related endeavours.

“When they come back, I am sure they will play a great part in building Pakistan’s economy,” he added.
