In a landmark step towards enhancing medical education and healthcare in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the University of Peshawar (UoP) launched Allied Health Sciences programs and announced the establishment of a new medical college. The initiatives were unveiled by Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur during an inauguration ceremony, marking a significant investment in the province’s human capital and health sector.
Chief Minister Gandapur announced the construction of a new medical college, including a school of nursing, with an initial budget allocation of 500 million rupees. The college is set to begin student enrollment next year. This development aims to address the growing demand for healthcare professionals and bolster employment opportunities in the region.
In addition to these groundbreaking announcements, the Chief Minister resolved a persistent issue related to faculty promotions at the University of Peshawar. He directed the Minister of Higher Education and the Secretary to expedite the processing of long-pending promotion requests, presented by the university’s Vice Chancellor.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Gandapur highlighted the importance of Allied Health Sciences programs in addressing the region’s healthcare needs. He urged students to embrace teamwork, innovation, and a dedication to service as they pursue their careers. “These programs will not only equip our youth with the skills needed in the modern healthcare industry but also contribute to the overall well-being of society,” he stated.
Minister of Higher Education Meena Khan Afridi emphasized the government’s commitment to empowering the nation’s youth through a robust education system. “Our vision is to nurture self-reliant individuals who can seize opportunities and shape the future of this country. By fostering healthy competition and ensuring quality education, we aim to prepare students to thrive in a globalized world,” she said.
Secretary of Higher Education Kamran Ahmad Afridi praised the University’s initiatives and acknowledged the provincial government’s efforts to enhance educational standards. He lauded the task force established to uplift university education and the government’s financial commitment, including a 5.4-billion-rupee allocation to ensure universities achieve financial sustainability.
These initiatives underscore the government’s dedication to improving healthcare and education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, positioning the University of Peshawar as a pivotal institution in driving progress for the province.
