Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the School Nutrition Program in Dera Ghazi Khan on Thursday, aimed at providing free milk to students up to the fifth grade. During the launch, CM Nawaz stressed her commitment to children’s welfare across Punjab, saying, “No matter how far Dera Ghazi Khan is from Lahore, I feel close to you. I think of these children as a mother would; they are VIPs to me.”

She expressed her joy at the warm reception, adding, “I was surprised the children here knew me, but their love was overwhelming.” Her connection with the region’s youth reinforces her commitment to prioritize their needs, even in remote areas.

Launching the program from Dera Ghazi Khan, rather than larger cities like Lahore or Rawalpindi, reflects Nawaz’s focus on grassroots development. She acknowledged the province’s challenges, saying, “Punjab has thousands of schools and millions of students. While Pakistan’s resources are limited, better days are ahead. I will do everything possible to meet the children’s nutritional needs.”

Despite the program’s high costs, Nawaz emphasized its importance, stating, “This is an expensive initiative, but nothing is more valuable than our children.” She also urged other provincial chief ministers to adopt similar programs, underscoring the critical role of investing in children’s nutrition and education. “Your Chief Minister is like a mother to you,” she said, reiterating her focus on practical, long-term development.
