In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at providing education and residence facilities for transgender children, the Punjab Government has unveiled the country’s first state-of-the-art school dedicated to transgender students. Named “Tahafuz Daras Gah,” the institution will offer O&A levels education, marking a significant milestone in the inclusivity of education in the region.

The inauguration ceremony, graced by Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi, took place near Jallo Park, where the newly established school stands as a testament to progress and equality. The school, established by the UK Curriculum & Accreditation Board (UKCAB), was completed in a remarkably short span of 18 days, showcasing a swift and determined effort towards fostering educational opportunities for the transgender community.

During his visit, Chief Minister Naqvi personally inspected the school’s facilities, including classrooms, hostels, and other essential amenities, expressing admiration for the dedication and efficiency of the team behind the project. He emphasized the importance of providing a safe and nurturing environment for transgender children to thrive academically and personally.

Addressing the gathering at the inaugural ceremony, Chief Minister Naqvi highlighted the significance of addressing the challenges faced by the transgender community, a topic often overlooked or marginalized in mainstream discourse. He commended the efforts of IG Police Dr. Usman Anwar, who has been instrumental in championing the welfare of transgender individuals by establishing various support centers and creating employment opportunities.

“I urge the entire team involved in running ‘Tahafuz Daras Gah’ to wholeheartedly dedicate themselves to the noble cause for which this institution has been established,” stated Chief Minister Naqvi, underscoring the importance of concerted efforts towards the advancement and empowerment of transgender individuals.

In attendance at the ceremony were notable figures including IG Police, CCPO, Chairman UKCAB Zahid Bhatti, and representatives from the transgender community, underscoring the collaborative approach towards fostering inclusivity and equality in Pakistani society.

The inauguration of “Tahafuz Daras Gah” marks a significant step forward in the ongoing efforts to address the educational needs and rights of transgender individuals in Pakistan, setting a precedent for future endeavors aimed at promoting inclusivity and diversity in educational institutions nationwide.
