For the first time in Punjab’s history, a program has been launched to establish micro-libraries and build “City Walls” that celebrate the culture of small towns. This initiative kicked off in Wazirabad, a city recognized for its literary and commercial importance in Punjab.
According to “Jang,” the Chief Minister’s “Read Punjab Programme” has resulted in the installation of micro-library book racks in public parks and waiting areas at bus and railway stations throughout Wazirabad. Initially, more than 1,000 books are available at 15 locations for local residents and visitors from other areas, with plans to add another 1,000 books to these racks over the next two to three months.
The program aims to encourage healthy reading habits among people in parks and during their wait at transportation hubs. Rainproof covers have been provided for the book racks to protect the books from adverse weather.
In line with Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision to promote the cultural heritage of small towns, special walls have been constructed in Wazirabad tehsil to showcase the history and culture of the newly designated district. The “Walls of Wazirabad,” “Alipur Chatha,” and “Gakhar” serve as significant cultural landmarks, highlighting the unique identities of each city within the tehsil.
