Covid-19 vaccination in Sindh schools to start from Monday

While chairing a meeting at the Directorate of Inspection & Registration of Private Institutions Sindh on Saturday, the Provincial Education Minister Syed Sardar Shah said that the Covid-19 vaccination would be started at schools and colleges from Monday.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary School Education and Literacy Department Akbar Leghari, the Secretary College Education Department Syed Khalid Haider Shah and other officers.

During the meeting, after considering the suggestion of the health department, it was decided all the students enrolled in 9th and 10the classes and above would be vaccinated. However, the consent certificate for the vaccination of children would be obtained from the parents.

Addressing the private school owners and parents, the minister said that if administrators and parents of privately managed schools don’t want another closure of schools, they would need to support vaccination”.

He said that vaccination has brought life back to normal in developed countries around the world. All parent organizations, private schools associations will be taken into confidence so that the risk of educational disruption could be minimized.

The meeting decided to review the registration of private schools and the facilities of private schools being provided to students. A mechanism will be set up by completing the database of all private schools.

It was also approved that a team will be formed for inspection in private schools. The team members will also obtain the salary records of teachers in private schools. Private schools are bound to pay a monthly minimum salary fixed by the Sindh government for all private workers.

“I won’t allow private schools to expel children from their institutions due to the delayed payment of school fees,” said Sardar Shah, added according to the law, all private schools must provide free education to 10% of the children. This DIRPIS should ensure implementation of freeship rule and the private schools have to comply with controlling authority’s rules.

He said the Sindhi Language Authority will provide training in Sindhi to the teachers of private schools so that they could teach Sindhi at private schools. “We want to create harmony by promoting the Sindhi language as a medium of education”
