Every year, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) hosts the prestigious ‘Green Talents Competition’. The International Forum for High Potentials in Sustainable Development is a platform to promote the international exchange of innovative green ideas. The award works under the patronage of Minister Anja Karliczek, who intends to work directly with fresh students of Masters and PhD programs each year. Each year, the winners of Green Talents Competition come from different countries and diverse scientific disciplines, with their work recognised for their outstanding achievements in making societies more sustainable. These projects are not limited to Germany but can work in any area in the world once approved by the jury of German experts. The award winners are granted unique access to the country’s research elite entirely based on their innovative ideas and its impact.

The applicants must meet all the given criteria in order to win the competition. Applicants must be enrolled in a Masters or PhD programme or they must have finished their degrees no more than three years before the application process. Candidates should have no more than 3 years of work experience gained within the scope of their degree. Their sustainable idea should have a strong focus on sustainable development and an interdisciplinary approach along with above average grades.
