Delegation of Industrialists Visits ICCBS

A delegation of industrialists, led by Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) Executive Member of CSR Muhammad Siddiq Sheikh, recently visited the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) at the University of Karachi (UoK). The delegation was welcomed by Prof Dr Farzana Shaheen, Director of ICCBS, along with other officials from the center.

The delegation included notable figures such as Rashid Ahmed Siddiqui, Chairman of the Pakistan Food Association, Afeef Rashid, CEO of Afeef Packages PVT Ltd, and Yousaf Saleem Akhtar, Director of Pak Ghiza PVT Ltd. The meeting saw the presence of key ICCBS officials including Prof Dr Syed Abid Ali, Prof Dr Syed Ghulam Musharraf, Prof Dr Asmat Saleem, Prof Dr Shabana Simjee, Dr Imran Malik, Dr Ishtiaq Ahmed, Dr Shakil Ahmed, and Dr Almas Jabeen.

During the meeting, Prof Dr Farzana Shaheen delivered a detailed presentation highlighting the extensive scientific and research activities undertaken at ICCBS. She emphasized the center’s potential for commercializing research outcomes and reiterated her commitment to establishing a robust industry-ICCBS collaboration mechanism for product development.

Prof Dr Shaheen mentioned that the ICCBS would provide information on various potential products suitable for commercialization in different industrial sectors. She proposed future meetings with focused groups of industrialists from specific fields to explore synergies and develop one-to-one collaborations, particularly in the areas of Chemicals, Food, and Health Sciences.

The industrial delegation, led by Muhammad Siddiq Sheikh, expressed significant interest in the research activities at ICCBS. They recognized the center’s vast potential and expressed a desire to bridge the gap between the ICCBS and the industrial sector for product development. The delegation emphasized the need for establishing indigenous technology for the country’s sustainability and industrial growth.

“The potential of ICCBS should be harnessed for the industrial development of the country. There is a critical need to establish indigenous technology for sustainability,” observed Muhammad Siddiq Sheikh.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties expressing optimism about future collaborations and the impact of such partnerships on Pakistan’s industrial landscape.
