Sindh Forensic DNA and Serology Laboratory (SFDL) at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) Karachi University organized a one-day training session for medico-legal officers (MLOs) on Saturday.

Police Surgeon Karachi Dr Summaiya Syed delivered a lecture on the current status of the medico-legal department, issues, and the way forward. She said that this training session was arranged to improve the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of medicolegal officers. Her lecture was dedicated to the late Prof Farhat Mirza. She paid a rich tribute to Dr Mirza for his unmatching services to the medico-legal department.

SFDL In-charge and Project Director Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan welcomed the participants and said that Forensic DNA was an important modern-age tool that had gained much attention recently in most criminal and civil matters. Training of the medicolegal officers is very important for proper collection of evidence which will help the dispensation of justice in its true spirit, he observed.

He also described the establishment of the state-of-the-art facility of forensic DNA analysis, which is developed according to international standards containing qualified and trained staff and highly advanced technology.

Director CPLC Shanakht Project Amir Hassan also addressed the participant and said that team of Shanakhat project had closely worked with the SFDL during all major incidents. In the end, the participants of the training session paid a visit to Sindh Forensic DNA and Serology Laboratory.
