Prof. Dr. Athar Ata assumes charge as VC of FUUAST

Prof. Dr. Athar Ata on Wednesday assumed the charge as VC of Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST).
Dr. Athar Ata is a Chemistry Professor and the Chair of the Department of Chemistry at The University of Winnipeg, Canada. Dr. Ata graduated from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) with a Master of Science degree in 1989 and the University of Karachi (KU) with a PhD in Chemistry in 1995. He completed his doctorate degree under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Iqbal Chaudhry and Prof. Dr. Ata-ur-Rehman, said a spokesperson of FUUAST.

He was performing his duties as a Professor at the University of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman Senate FUUAST A.Q.Khalil welcomed Professor Dr. Athar Ata for taking charge and assured his full cooperation in discharge of his VC duties in the FUUAST.

Prof Ata’s main research interests are the isolation of new pharmaceutical agents from marine organisms, microorganisms and traditional medicinal plants, as well as the biosynthesis of natural products and microbial transformations of bioactive natural products.

His research has resulted in about 74 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals. He is a member of American Chemical Society (ACS) and got Clifford J. Robson Memorial Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2007-2008. He is an Editorial Board member of Current Pharmaceutical Biotechnology ISSN: 1873-4316 (Online) ISSN: 1389-2010 (Print).
