Sindh suspends on-campus activities

All public sector universities of Sindh have announced to suspend on-campus learning and research activities from July 26.

However, the notification issued by the Sindh’s Home Department reads; “all the public and private sector universities within the jurisdiction of the province of Sindh shall remain closed until July 31, 2021”. But, some of the varsities including Sindh University, Karachi University, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Sindh Madressatul Islam University and others would continue to take the ongoing exams while the process of admission for fall semester 2021 would also be persistent as per schedule.

“The interviews for admission to the Ph.D., MS and MPhil programs 2021 will be conducted as per schedule,” the notification issued by Sindh University reads. It is further stated that no outsider would be allowed to enter the varsity premises during the exams hours. And strict compliance of Covid-19 would be observed during the exams.

All the administrative staffers are directed to attend their offices with 50 percent attendance while essential staffers would continue their duties as per normal routine. Also, only those students whose first semester exams have been scheduled would enter the hostels.

On Friday, Owing to the Covid-19, the Sindh government has decided to keep educational institutions closed from July 26. It was also decided that annual exams would be conducted as per the schedule already issued by the respective educational boards under the strict follow-up of the Covid-19 SOPs.

Since the emergence of Covid-19 pandemic, the educational institutions for the third time have been observing a complete closure due to which around three academic years would be disrupted. During the last two, none of the educational boards across the country was even able to conduct full exams. In 2020, students were promoted to the next grades without exams while this year exams were taken only in optional subjects.
