DUET, CISSS seminar stress the use of nuclear techniques in agriculture

Dr Mohid Iftikhar, Director of Research at the Center for International Strategic Studies Sindh (CISSS) during an introductory outreach seminar at Dawood University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) explained how nuclear techniques in agriculture result in nutritional as well as high-quality crops.

It was stressed that nuclear applications in agriculture have had a high yield of crops in Sindh, and this is where social science research mainly in political economy can contribute to new empirical knowledge. In addition, Dr Mohid Iftikhar and CISSS researcher Sumair Ayoob explained the broader objectives of CISSS for conducting fact-based research in areas of power, energy, and health, and informing the people in Sindh about Pakistan’s correct strategic perspective.

Prof Dr Faizullah Abbasi Vice-Chancellor Dawood University of Engineering and Technology appreciated the efforts of Team CISSS and stressed that energy, agriculture, and water remain central areas of research and his areas of interest. He expressed interest in jointly organizing a seminar on nuclear energy and agriculture and also welcomed Dr Mohid Iftikhar in presenting his research at a forthcoming conference of DUET related to agriculture. Professor Dr. Waheed Bhutto Pro-Vice-Chancellor DUET, welcomed team CISSS and stated that he was ready to collaborate with CISSS and showed interest in signing an MoU for joint research projects.

Dr Zubair Ahmed Soomro Director CPD/ Professor of Energy DUET, noted that high-impact research in education is vital for development and remarked that DUET looked forward to cooperation and research with CISSS in areas of energy and agriculture. Director ORIC Professor Dr Ghulam Mujtaba appreciated the role of CISSS in social science research and stressed this is indeed promising for students. Dr M Rauf Professor of Electronic Engineering observed that while there is abundant research in fossil fuel energy, however, important gaps need to be explored in nuclear energy. He further was of the view that DUET and CISSS can have progressive meetings to measure the impact of joint research.
