The 5th Senate Meeting of Dawood University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) was held on Sunday at the university’s Seminar Hall, chaired by Pro-Chancellor and Provincial Minister for Works and Services, Syed Zia Abbas Shah Rizvi.
The meeting commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran. DUET’s Vice Chancellor, Engr Prof Dr Samreen Hussain (T.I), welcomed the Chairman of the Senate, Syed Zia Abbas Shah, and briefed him about the university’s ongoing development initiatives.
The Senate meeting was attended by notable members, including Vice-Chancellor NEDUET, Prof Dr Sarosh Hashmat Lodi; Federal HEC representative, Prof Dr AQ Mughal; Secretary of Universities and Boards Department, Muhammad Mureed Rahimoon; Chancellor of the Ilma University, Noman Abid Lakhani; Chairman of the Board of Technical Education, Prof Dr Masroor Ahmed Sheikh; representative of the College Education Department, Ehsanullah Laghari; Pro-Vice Chancellors of DUET, Prof Dr Abdul Waheed Bhutto; Registrar, Prof Dr Syed Asif Ali Shah; Director Finance, Sheikh Shabbir; Deans of all faculties, and Chairpersons of various departments.
During the meeting, the minutes of the 4th Senate meeting were approved. DUET Senate also approved the revised estimated budget for the financial year 2022-23 and the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2023-24. These proposals were previously recommended in the 13th meeting of the Finance and Planning Committee and the 15th meeting of the Syndicate.
Furthermore, the Senate granted approval for the establishment of Dawood University Endowment Fund Trust and Draft Trust Deed. The Senate also approved the annual report for the year 2022-23 and reviewed and approved the revised estimated budgets for the years 2021-22 and 2022-23, based on the recommendations made in the 12th meeting of the Finance and Planning Committee and the 13th meeting of the Syndicate.
Addressing the attendees, Pro-Chancellor and Provincial Minister for Works and Services, Syed Zia Abbas Shah, expressed his satisfaction and appreciation for the stability and progress witnessed at DUET. He commended Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Samreen Hussain (T.I) for her efforts in significantly reducing the financial deficit within a short period. He expressed confidence that under her dynamic leadership, the university would continue to prosper, and financial affairs would further improve.
In her remarks, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Samreen Hussain acknowledged that when she assumed the role of VC at DUET approximately four months ago, the financial deficit was significant. However, with sound financial acumen, the deficit has been consistently reduced. She assured the Senate that the revised estimated budgets would continue to reduce the deficit even further. The Senate members applauded Vice-Chancellor for her proactive initiatives and achievements.
