DUET Senate approves budget

Dawood University of Engineering and Technology on Sunday held a meeting of its Senate at the seminar hall of the university, discussing the development projects and achievements of the last eight years.

The meeting was presided over by Pro-Chancellor of Engineering Universities and Advisor to the Chief Minister on Education in Sindh Nisar Ahmed Khuhro. On the occasion, the DUET VC Prof. Dr. Faizullah Abbasi briefed the advisor on the development projected started by the varsity and also provided details of the achievements of his eight-year tenure.

The participants were included Vice Chancellor NED University Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodi, former Chairman PEC Sindh Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed Sheikh, Prof Bhavani Shankar, Mufti Ferozuddin Hazarawi, Education Department representative Faqir Muhammad Lakho, Dr. AB Soomro, and others.

During the meeting minutes of the third Senate session were approved while the final report of the approved recommendations was also presented. The meeting also approved the report presented for the financial year 2020-21, which was recommended at the ninth meeting of the Finance and Planning Committee and the 11th meeting of the DUET Syndicate. The Senate agreed on budget proposals for the new financial year 2021 to 2022.

Addressing the meeting, Pro Chancellor said that he’s pleased to see the progress of Dawood University. Before coming under the control of Sindh government, this institution was very dilapidated but Dr. Faizullah Abbasi and the Sindh government to put the DUET on the path of development.

Khuhro said that the 8-year tenure of the DUET VC was the golden era of the varsity in which not only the varsity came to stability but also regained its position. “As per Universities Act 20218, VCs are not entitled to get a third term. However, we need a Vice Chancellor like Allah Abbasi who can continue the journey of development”.

On the occasion, Prof Abbasi told the meeting that when he was appointed in 2013, a principal had been shot dead and another mysteriously fell from the fourth floor of a university and died.

“Despite all such problems, a strong and capable team was formed to rebuild the institution. Enabling students to get quality education and we provide the best engineers to the society. Due to our tireless efforts, the academic calendar is now strictly followed in the university and all the programs have been approved by the concerned regulators”.

At the end of the meeting, DUET Senate member and NEDUET VC Dr. Surosh Hashmat Lodi said Prof Abbasi’s services to this institution are commendable. Through his leadership skills, he made the university one of the great engineering varsities.
