Educators Unite Against Unjust Tax Policy

In a strong show of dissent, faculty members and staff at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, along with its satellite campuses in Kala Shah Kaku, Faisalabad, Narowal, and Rachna, staged a protest on Black Day. The demonstration, organized by the UET Teaching Staff Association (TSA), was aimed at opposing the government’s recent decision to impose a 25% tax deduction on teachers’ salaries. The protesters vehemently demanded the immediate restoration of the tax rebate, which they argue is essential for their financial stability and morale.

The atmosphere at UET campuses was charged with frustration as educators and staff members united under the banner of TSA to voice their grievances. Many participants carried placards and banners condemning the tax policy, calling it unjust and detrimental to the teaching community. The protest highlighted the growing discontent among academic professionals, who feel that such financial burdens could discourage talented individuals from pursuing careers in education.

The UET Teaching Staff Association has vowed to escalate their campaign if their demands are not met, warning of potential strikes and further demonstrations. This protest underscores the broader challenges faced by educators in Pakistan, who are increasingly grappling with economic pressures and policy changes that impact their livelihoods.
