Eight school teachers killed in Parachinar KP

Unidentified people killed eight school teachers in different events in Parachinar district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The sad incident took place inside the staff room of a local school where teachers were sitting during an examination when one teacher was killed while driving nearby.

According to local police, a school teacher named Muhammad Sharif was moving in his vehicle when unidentified people opened fire on him. Soon after his killing the unidentified persons entered Teri Mangal High School, and killed six school teachers and one staff member who were sitting in the staff room to perform examination duties.

The deceased teachers were identified as Mir Hussain, Jawad Hussain, Naveed Hussain, Jawad Ali, Muhammad Ali and Ali Hussain, all of whom belonged to the Turi Bangash tribe.

Chairperson Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Kohat Samina Altaf told media persons that no student was injured as all of them were inside the examination hall. She said that the board has canceled all examinations in Parachinar.

Soon after the incident, an emergency was declared at the hospitals in the area and all schools were closed for an indefinite period in Parachinar.

President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the killing of eight school teachers in Parachinar and Upper Kurram. “The attack on teachers by the enemies of education is condemnable,’ Alvi said.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said he had sought a report from the interior secretary, and assured that the perpetrators would be punished. “The killing of teachers on examination duty is a very heinous act,” he said.

In their separate statements on Twitter, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Co-Chairman Asif Zardari condemned the incident and demanded an “immediate and complete investigation of the matter by police and the administration”.

Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that the firing incident in the school on the teachers was highly heart-rending. He underscored that all sympathies of the Punjab government rest with the heirs of the deceased teachers.
