During an emergency meeting held on January 1, 2025, and chaired by EUTA President Dr Aisha Khan, the association addressed the ongoing financial turmoil affecting university staff. Dr Khan urged the university administration to take swift and decisive action to ensure that salaries are disbursed without further delay.

According to a notice released by EUTA, provincial authorities had previously approved the release of funds allocated for universities. However, the allocation remains undisbursed, leaving the institution unable to meet its financial obligations to employees. Compounding the issue, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has yet to transfer the necessary funds for December 2024, exacerbating the financial strain on the university’s payroll.

EUTA has emphasized that timely salary payments are a fundamental right of the employees and critical for their livelihood. “Our members have been patient, but this delay is unacceptable. Salaries should be disbursed promptly to ensure the well-being of our staff,” stated Dr Khan.

The association has sharply criticized the administration’s handling of the situation, labeling it as poor management and a lack of proactive measures to address the financial crisis. “The administration has failed to take the necessary steps to secure the funds that have been approved. This negligence is jeopardizing the morale and financial stability of our employees,” Dr Khan added.

In response to the ongoing delays, EUTA has set a firm deadline for the administration to process and release the pending salaries by January 3, 2025. The association has warned that failure to meet this deadline will result in organized protests aimed at drawing attention to the plight of university staff and pressuring the administration to act.

As of this writing, the administration has yet to issue a public statement regarding EUTA’s demands or the threatened protests. University employees and their families are anxiously awaiting a resolution to the financial impasse, hoping for a swift response from both provincial authorities and the Higher Education Commission.

The situation highlights broader challenges within the higher education sector in the region, where funding delays and administrative inefficiencies continue to impact the livelihoods of educators and support staff alike.
