Experts discuss importance of criminology education

Experts discussed techniques being used in criminal cases in a one-day seminar on “Evolution of Criminology” organized by the Shamed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto University of Law’s Criminology Department on Friday

The seminar attended by participants belonging to pedagogy, professional training, various law enforcement agencies, forensic scientist fraternity and the judicature.

Prof. Dr. Nabi Baksh Narejo, head of the Criminology Department of Sindh University was the Chief Guest while Additional Home Secretary Tariq Ahmed Qureshi was the guest of honour.

 On the occasion Dr. Nabi Baksh Narejo said that in view of modern technologies and methods being used in commission of crimes, the importance of teaching of Criminology had increased. The people associated with this disciple were committed to prioritize and focus on its education through adequate resources. He proposed establishment of a university of Criminology to cater for the needs of investigators and justice dispensation system.

 Earlier in his welcome address, Dr. Javed Aziz Masudi, Chairman Department of Criminology SZABUL, highlighted the significance of criminologists for the society. While referring to the recent increase in the incidents of lawlessness, Dr Masudi explained how a criminologist could play an effective role to provide guidelines for policy development against crime and criminals. SSP Sindh Police Shokat Ali Khatian dilated upon the significance of training concepts for the law enforcement agencies and their responsibility to control crime within society.

 He stressed the need for learning new ways and technology to curb crime and be a good hope for the society. Senior Police officer Tariq Jadoon, Member International crime scene investigator Association USA shared his investigation kit with students of criminology and practically demonstrated the techniques of crime scene preservation and collection of evidences.

 Prof. Dr. Zaki ud din Chairman Forensic Medicines Dow University, and Lt-Col. Rana Atif Nisar TI (M) shared their expertise on medico legal analysis of evidence base approach and forensic principles. Teachers and experts in criminology, Dr Syed Khawer Mehdi, Mr Jaffer Abbas, Chaudhary Waseem Iqbal, official Assignee SHC, Sub Inspector Amir Saeed of Crime Scene Investigation Department Sindh Police and others also shared their experience with the audience.
