Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA)—Sindh Chapter on Tuesday held a meeting at  the Sindh Agriculture University, expressing concerns over the negligence of government towards higher education and the dismal state of education in the province.

The meeting was presided over by President FAPUASA Sindh Chapter Liaquat Ali Tunio and the proceedings of the meeting were run by FAPUASA Sindh Chapter General Secretary Asif Hussain Samo. FAPUASA Pakistan Central President Professor Nek Muhammad Shaikh participated as a special guest in the meeting.

The meeting unanimously condemned victimization of faculty members at the hands of VCs including the VC QUEST Nawabshah who has stopped salary of Assistant Professor Ali Asghar Chandio for the last 10 months.

FAPUASA Sindh Chapter demanded that such forced transfer posting must be canceled and Chandio’s salary should be paid. It was decided a committee would meet the VCs and other authorities to resolve the matter. The members of the association demanded lifting the ban on new appointments. In this regard, a delegation of FAPUASA will also meet the Universities and Boards Department Secretary and will write a letter to the CM Sind as well.

They expressed concerns over the dismal financial and administrative condition of universities in Sind and demanded that an increase in the budget for universities to meet the crisis. FAPUASA Sindh Chapter also rejects the condition of post PhD experience for the appointment of Associate Professor and Professor. Such policies would harm the career of thousands of faculty members.

The condition of HEC Approved Supervisor should be cancelled for the supervision if thesis. Apart from that, it was expressed that since integrity of VC search committee has been questioned, the government should revamp the VC search committee and the controversial appointments of certain vice chancellors should be investigated. Moreover, HEC Sindh should play an active role in the matters of universities. Heads of HEC Sindh and other similar institutions should be appointed from the public sector universities of the province.
