FCCU inaugurates Forman Media Center

The inaugural ceremony of the Forman Media Center, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to fostering innovation and excellence in media education and production, was held at Forman Christian College, A Chartered University (FCCU).

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Dr Jonathan Addleton, Rector FCCU, Dr Altaf Ullah Khan, Dean of Humanities, Head of the Communications and Cultural Affairs at the Embassy of the federal republic of Germany, Mrs Dorota Magdalena Berezicki, Sanjeev Pokharel, Chief Technical Advisor at GIZ, Muhammad Atif, Senior Technical Advisor, State Citizen Dialogue, Support to Local Governance Program GIZ, Dr Firasat Jabeen, Chairperson Department of Mass Communication FCCU, along with distinguished members of the faculty and respected industry professionals from the media and communications sector.

The event began with an introductory note by Dr Firasat Jabeen, Chairperson Department of Mass Communication, FCCU. She briefed the guests about the various facilities available at the Forman Media Center. She said that the Centre is equipped with the latest technology and professional-grade equipment. It offers students an immersive learning environment where they can gain hands-on experience in various media disciplines, including journalism, broadcasting, advertising, and digital media production. She also talked about the newly launched MPhil Mass Communication program and said that the Forman Media Centre will facilitate MPhil scholars in their research pursuits.

In his welcome address, Dr Altaf Ullah Khan, Dean of Humanities, highlighted the significance of the Forman Media Centre in shaping the future of media education. He expressed gratitude to the esteemed partners at GIZ for their generous support in establishing the facility. He also commended the university administration for their unwavering commitment to ensuring that the Centre is equipped with top-of-the-line equipment.

Representing the embassy of the federal republic of Germany, Mrs Berezicki appreciated the collaboration between GIZ and FCCU in establishing the media centre. She expressed the German government’s commitment to youth and women empowerment. Mrs Berezicki also stressed the importance of the empowerment of citizens of their right to information and services.

On this occasion, Dr Jonathan Addleton, Rector of FCCU said that the university is committed to providing students with a comprehensive and industry-relevant media education. “This facility will empower our students to develop their skills, cultivate their creativity, and become future leaders in the media industry,” he said in this address.

The Rector presented shields to GIZ representatives Sanjeev Pokharel and Muhammad Atif and Berezicki as a token of appreciation for their unwavering support of FCCU. The ceremony ended with a plaque unveiling by the Rector.

The event also featured a guided tour of the Forman Media Centre, allowing attendees to explore the various specialized studios, editing suites, and production spaces designed to facilitate hands-on learning and collaboration. The Centre’s cutting-edge facilities, coupled with the guidance of experienced faculty members, will enable students to produce high-quality media content that meets industry standards.
