Federal Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel visits JSMU

The Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (NHSRC),  Abdul Qadir Patel, has announced the construction and renovation of a 100-bed grey structured hospital in Dawood Goth, Baldia Town, Karachi. The construction and renovation work is expected to be completed in less than 7 months and the hospital will be able to provide quality healthcare to the people of the area. Federal Health Minister visited Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) to discuss the construction and renovation work and operational procedures with the university’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Amjad Siraj Memon.

Director Health Services Dr A Hameed Jumani, Director Border Health Services Dr Syed Ghulam Murtaza Shah, CEO Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Institute of Trauma (SMBBIT) Dr Muhammad Sabir Memon, Registrar JSMU Dr Azam Khan and others were also presented at the meeting.

Patel also advised to rename the hospital after Shaheed Idi Amin Trauma Centre to acknowledge the devotion of martyred social worker of the area.

He said that the construction and renovation work of the hospital is a priority for the government and that he will personally monitor the progress of the work. He also said that the government is committed to providing quality healthcare to the people of both Sindh and Balochistan and that the renovation of the hospital is part of this commitment.

Professor Amjad Siraj Memon welcomed Patel and said that the university is committed to providing all possible support to the government in the renovation of the hospital. He said that the hospital is currently a grey structure building and in a dilapidated condition and the renovation work will make it a modern and well-equipped healthcare facility.

Dr Muhammad Sabir Memon, CEO of SMBBIT, said that the PC1 of the said building will be placed in the ongoing month of July and the renovation will have to be started as non ADP schemes.

Patel added that along with government funds, he will try to engage financially strong persons to donate the required medical facilities like MRI, CITI SCAN and XRAY machines.

The renovation of the hospital will provide much-needed healthcare facilities to the people of Karachi and Balochistan. It should be noted that earlier the responsibility for the construction of this hospital was with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
