GCU faculty refuses to perform election duties

LinkedIn

The faculty members of Government College University (GCU) have refused to perform election duties. In this regard, an emergent meeting of the Executive Council of the Academic Staff Association, GC University, Lahore held on Tuesday in the Department of Zoology.

The elected representatives took stock of the prevailing situation, and they expressed serious concerns to provide the names of GCU faculty for the duties in the upcoming elections. The members of the executive body referred to a letter issued by the Higher Education Department (HED) Punjab on April 4 Ref No: (SO Univ.1-4/2022) under which university teachers and non-teaching staff were declared non-government employees and deprived of a 15% special allowance. The members of the executive body took the clear stance that if the university teachers and staff are not government employees then it is not advisable to include their names in Election Commission duties which are meant to be only for the Govt Civil Servants.

ASA Executive Body demanded from HED and Punjab Government that either withdraw the said letter and immediately entitle us to the 15% special allowance for university teachers and employees otherwise university faculty will not perform election duty under any circumstances.

The teachers’ representatives enormously demanded that FAPUASA Punjab immediately address this serious issue and play a pivotal role to protect the legitimate rights of university teachers.
