GCU, MTA join hands for promotion, publication of Urdu literature

The Government College University (GCU) Lahore and Majlis-e-Taraqqi-e-Adab (MTA) have inked a memorandum of understanding for joint publication of manuscripts and rare books for promotion of literature in the country.

GCU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi and Majlis Tarraqi-e-Adab Director Mansoor Afaq signed the accord at a graceful ceremony at the MTA’s office on Wednesday. Eminent journalist Sohail Warraich and GCU Persian Department Chairperson Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Shahid were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Mansoor Afaq said that according to the MoU, the GCU Press would publish the books of Majlis Tarraqi-e-Adab, while these books would be available to the University’s students at half price.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Asghar Zaidi said that “GCU Press is non-profit organization modelled after Cambridge and Oxford university presses and we will publish works of scholars across the globe.” Prof. Zaidi believed that it was our obligation to publish research and literature that shaped the ideas which would make humans’ lives better.

According to the MoU, GCU Lahore and MTA would also make joint efforts to promote literature inside and outside Pakistan.
