Government College University (GCU) Lahore, renowned for its academic prowess and historical significance, has unfortunately garnered attention for a disturbing incident. Reports surfaced of a faculty member being assaulted amidst allegations of sexual harassment by a female student.
As reported by different media outlets, the incident unfolded when a female student at GC University purportedly confronted a professor whom she accused of misconduct. Video evidence captured the student throwing files and pulling the assistant professor’s hair forcefully. The footage, captured by a bystander, depicted the student repeatedly striking the professor with office supplies as he attempted to defend himself.
While addressing grievances is crucial, resorting to physical violence is not the appropriate course of action and may entail legal ramifications for both parties involved.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for GCU announced that the university’s Vice Chancellor had taken cognizance of the matter and initiated a committee to conduct a thorough investigation. The university emphasized that the committee’s mandate is to ascertain accountability for the incident and implement suitable measures.
Ever since this news has surfaced, some other female alumni of GCU have come forward complaining about the attitude of the same professor. Mohibba Ahmed wrote on her “X” profile “It is unfortunate to witness an important issue of sexual harassment at Government College University Lahore being reduced to dirty university politics. Mahboob Ahmad was one of our teachers and was notorious for his sexual exploits. Yet, he was never held accountable for his actions. I am extremely proud of the student who was courageous enough to confront this vile man and expose him for who he is – a depraved predator”
