Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) welcomed a high-level delegation of Vice Chancellors, Rectors, and Presidents from 12 member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Friday. The visit, organized under the umbrella of COMSTECH (the OIC’s Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation), marked the inauguration of the prestigious Leadership Summit and International Innovation Expo 2025. The event aims to foster collaboration, innovation, and sustainable development across OIC member states.
The summit, held in collaboration with COMSTECH, brought together academic leaders, OIC delegates, and experts from 20 international universities, including representatives from Oman, Malaysia, Jordan, Tatarstan, Iran, Palestine, Tanzania, and Bangladesh, among others. The expo showcased cutting-edge innovative projects from various GCUF departments and international companies, highlighting advancements in science, technology, and education.
In his opening address, GCUF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rauf-I-Azam expressed his gratitude to COMSTECH’s Coordinator General, Dr Muhammad Iqbal Chaudhary, and Advisor Media Linkage Murtaza Noor for their instrumental roles in organizing the event. Dr Rauf emphasized the importance of international collaboration in building a sustainable future through education and innovation.
“This summit is a testament to the power of unity and shared vision among OIC member states,” said Dr Rauf. “By working together, we can address global challenges and create opportunities for our students and researchers to thrive.”
As part of GCUF’s commitment to supporting education in conflict-affected regions, Dr Rauf announced scholarships for students from Palestine and other OIC member states. These scholarships, offered in collaboration with COMSTECH, aim to provide access to quality education and empower the next generation of leaders and innovators.
A key highlight of the event was the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between GCUF and several universities from OIC member countries. These agreements focus on knowledge sharing, cooperative research, advancements in education and technology, and cultural exchange. The partnerships are expected to strengthen academic ties and foster global collaboration among higher education institutions.
The International Innovation Expo featured an impressive array of stalls, showcasing groundbreaking projects from GCUF departments and international participants. Attendees had the opportunity to explore innovations in fields such as renewable energy, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and sustainable agriculture.
The summit concluded with a call for continued collaboration among OIC member states to address pressing global challenges. Participants expressed optimism about the potential of such initiatives to drive progress and create a brighter future for the Islamic world and beyond.
