GCUF Marks International Day of Forests with Tree Plantation Drive

The Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) marked the International Day of Forests with a tree plantation drive and an awareness walk, emphasizing the crucial role of forests in maintaining environmental balance and combating climate change.

Speaking at the event, GCUF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rauf-I-Azam highlighted the importance of afforestation, stating that a minimum of 20% of a country’s land should be covered with forests to ensure a stable economy and a sustainable future. “To achieve this goal, we need mass tree plantations, collective efforts, and active community participation,” he said.

The event, organized by the university’s Clean & Green Youth Movement Club and the Estate Care Department, aimed to raise awareness about forest conservation. Faculty members, environmental experts, and students actively participated in the awareness walk, stressing the vital role of forests in climate regulation, biodiversity conservation, and human health.

The participants reiterated that forests not only help combat global warming but also improve air quality, reduce soil erosion, and provide habitats for wildlife. The initiative reflects GCUF’s commitment to environmental sustainability and its efforts to instill a sense of ecological responsibility among the youth.

By hosting such events, GCUF continues to contribute to the global effort of promoting afforestation and forest preservation, aligning with international environmental goals and national initiatives for a greener future.
