Through its local partner, Tech Valley, Google will support the Pakistani government by:

  • Establishing a local assembly of over 500,000 Chromebooks by 2026
  • Providing digital tools and resources to students and educators
  • Training teachers on effective technology use in classrooms
  • Developing innovative learning programs that integrate technology

A key focus of this initiative is addressing the needs of out-of-school children in Pakistan. Last month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared an “education emergency” to tackle the issue of over 26 million children not attending school. He has committed to a national program aimed at re-enrolling these children, with hopes for provincial government support.

As part of this partnership, Allied, an Australian manufacturer, will set up an assembly line in Pakistan to produce Google Chromebooks locally, making them more affordable for educational purposes. The goal is to ensure that every student has access to modern classroom technology, thus enhancing their learning experience.

The collaboration aims to drive a large-scale digital transformation of Pakistan’s education system, promoting the development of smart classrooms and a robust learning environment. Google and the Ministry will work together to empower educators and students through upskilling, training, and the creation of flexible, technology-enabled classrooms.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised Google’s efforts in the education sector and expressed his commitment to supporting these initiatives in Pakistan. He also encouraged further collaboration between Google and the Pakistani government, instructing the Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training and the Ministry of IT & Telecom to explore mutually beneficial opportunities.

Dr Khalid Maqbool Sidiqqui, Federal Minister for MoFEPT, highlighted the importance of the partnership with Google for Education in providing quality education to all Pakistani children. He emphasized that technology can significantly improve learning outcomes and prepare students for the future.

Farhan S Qureshi, Google Pakistan’s country director, remarked on the partnership’s potential to positively transform education in Pakistan, offering millions of students access to educational resources and digital tools to better prepare them for the digital economy. He also noted that the local assembly of Chromebooks would boost Pakistan’s manufacturing sector and attract more technology investments.

Kevin Kells, Managing Director of Google for Education, added that Google for Education provides powerful tools that help learners develop essential skills, including foundational literacy and advanced digital capabilities. He expressed pride in supporting the government’s mission to connect Pakistani youth, including out-of-school children, to high-quality learning opportunities.
