Government Takes Control Of Banned Outfit’s Madrassahs, Schools

The federal and provincial governments have taken control of a banned outfit’s madrassahs and schools as part of the National Action Plan (NAP). Provincial governments in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan took control of educational and other installations of Jamatud Dawa (JuD), after the a decision taken by the cabinet led by Prime Minister Imran Khan .

The government has effectively taken control of more than 160 facilities being run by JuD and Falah-e-Insaniyat Foundation (FIF) including schools, madrassahs, hospitals and other charity projects.

Sources that Academia Mag contacted said that although the provincial governments had taken over these installations, they hardly had the budget to meet the expenses of running these seminaries and madrassahs. For example, the Punjab Auqaf Department has taken control of JuD-run madrassah, but it neither has the budget nor manpower to manage the operations. According to an estimate, the Auqaf Department requires around Rs 810 million initially just to keep the installations operational.

The Punjab Auqaf Department took over control of 160 JuD and FIF madrassahs across Punjab. According to reports, zonal administers and circle managers of Auqaf have taken control of JuD seminaries in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Narrowal, Mandi Bahaudin, Sargodha, Khushab, Chiniot, Jhang, Chakwal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Sahiwal, Muzafargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur and Vehari.

In Sindh, the government took control of 31 schools and 16 madrassah across the province. These include 10 schools and nine madrassah in Karachi, three schools in Hyderabad, two schools and one madrassah in Matiari, one school in Jamshoro, three schools in Mirpurkhas, four schools in Sanghar, one school in Tando Allahyar, three schools and one madrassah in Badin, one school and one madrassah in Tharparkar, one madrassah in Noshehro Feroz, two schools and three madaris in Shaheed Benazirabad and one school in Kambar Shahdadkot.

The Balochistan government took control of four madrassahs and schools in the Quetta run by JuD. However, the government is also expected to take over control of madrassahs in Chaman, Hub and Pishin.
