In Attock, the District Education Authority (DEA), with the approval of the Rawalpindi commissioner, has suspended two female teachers for participating in political discussions during school hours. Deputy District Education Officer (DDEO) Musarrat Sultana has been assigned to investigate the incident and submit a detailed report.

Authorities have issued formal notices to government schools, department heads, and the health department, explicitly warning of severe penalties for non-compliance. The Rawalpindi district commissioner has stressed the urgency of implementing the ban, urging all stakeholders to adhere strictly to the directive.

The decision has drawn widespread criticism from various quarters. The All Pakistan Clerks Association and several teacher unions have rejected the ban, calling it an infringement on free expression. They argue that the restrictions stifle critical thinking and suppress voices in spaces meant for intellectual development.

Despite the backlash, the District Education Administration (DEA) Rawalpindi has doubled down, instructing school heads to ensure rigorous compliance with the new policy.

Observers note that such bans have historical precedent in Pakistan, often used to suppress dissent and maintain the status quo. Critics fear this latest directive could set a troubling precedent, further narrowing the space for open dialogue in public institutions.

As the debate unfolds, stakeholders across the education and government sectors are navigating the implications of the ban and its potential impact on institutional culture and governance.
