The Government College University (GCU), Lahore faculty and staff members celebrated the Christmas with the university’s minority community at a colorful ceremony at the university’s Bukhari Auditorium which was especially decorated in a traditional style with lights, balloons, flowers, flags and a Christmas tree.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Asghar Zaidi, Registrar Saboor Ahmed Khan and Professor Dr Sultan Shah cut the Christmas cake with the university’s Christian staff, students and faculty members.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Asghar Zaidi said “We should not only accept the minorities, but also celebrate them.” He added that that GCU had always stood out for promoting tolerance and religious harmony. “If we want peace, we must tolerance in the society towards the beliefs, faith, race, religion and ideas of other people,” he concluded.

Dr Peter John from the university’s Chemistry Department said the Christmas was a time of delight, sharing the joys and sufferings of others, acceptance, forgiveness, reconciliation, celebrations and promoting love and peace. He said that in every religion, peoples’ rights had a preference over other rights.

Earlier, GCU minority staff members expressed gratitude to the vice chancellor and other guests for celebrating Christmas with them. They said that Christmas gave the message of peace and love to all humanity.
