The Gurmani Manual for Academic Writing fills a crucial gap in the realm of Urdu literature, catering not only to students and scholars but also to enthusiasts keen on delving into Urdu academic prose and research writing. Covering a spectrum of topics including research methodologies, plagiarism, abstract writing, punctuation, citations, bibliography, footnotes, proofreading, indexing, and academic writing and research editing, this publication stands as a beacon of contemporary guidance.
Since its release last month, the manual has received acclaim from Urdu literary and academic circles. In contrast to outdated Urdu academic writing guides, the Gurmani Manual stands out with its comprehensive and updated content. While English boasts numerous resources on academic writing, Urdu has long suffered from a scarcity of such materials. Recognizing this gap, the Gurmani Centre took the initiative to fill this void with the most exhaustive Urdu manual to date.
Dr. Nadhra Shahbaz Khan, Director of the Gurmani Centre for Languages and Literature at LUMS, remarked, “The launch of the Gurmani Manual signifies a historic moment for the Gurmani Centre. It reflects our commitment to uphold standards of excellence in both academic and public discourse.”
The official launch event saw the participation of eminent academics, linguists, and literary experts, including Dr. Ali Cheema, Vice Chancellor of LUMS, Syed Babar Ali, Founding Pro Chancellor of LUMS, and Dr. Tabbasum Kashmiri, who presided over the session. Dr. Nasir Abbas Nayyar and Ms. Shaista Hassan hosted the event, while contributors to the manual, experts in Urdu academic writing and research, were also present to celebrate this significant achievement.
